Abelia

Abelia x grandiflora

Abelia grandiflora is a pretty evergreen shrub with an upright “fountain-like” habit. The new growth is fetching bronze/red turning glossy green as it matures. In summer it produces continuous flushes of pinkish bell-shaped flowers that can cover the canopy of the shrub.  It can be a bit straggly, but I like that about it, if it’s not your thing, you can always trim it.

Another bonus is, it will grow just about anywhere, in any soil and is great for those difficult spots in the garden, especially those with little sun. We grow it in our Side Pond Garden, near the Rose Arch, where it gets little sun but seems happy enough.
